March 2026 Update
Please note that, in the Municipality of Varenna, at the moment two sections of the lower variant between Lierna and Varenna are closed:
- Between Pino and the source of the Fiumelatte, due to work by Anas (National Agency for the Protection of Rocks) on the rockfall nets above the trail.
- Between the Varenna cemetery and Vezio (“Scabium” trail), due to work to rebuild the dry stone walls and consolidate the trail.
These two sections can be walked as follows:
- Coming from Lierna, upon reaching the Anas cabin before the section that runs alongside the SS36, go down to the left, follow Via Roslina, pass through the hamlet of Pino, and reach Fiumelatte, along the lakeshore. From here, continue along the lake to Varenna, or follow the signs for the source of the Fiumelatte.
- Heading north, from the Varenna cemetery you descend towards the centre of the town and cross it along the main road, until you take the road to Vezio on the right: a mule track in the woods that leads to Vezio and the Castle.
